Moms Love Shopping #30

Mar 21, 2008 Author: Christina | Filed under: Uncategorized

Spring has only just begun but if you think ahead to future seasons - summer and fall - you can very often find deals on the items you need. The earlier you shop for many things, the better the sales will be. Then you don’t run the risk of stores being out of stock when you REALLY need something.

Chele was also joined by her two cutie pie sons, Tristan and Levi, and she’s already got them thinking ahead. They came up with some great ideas of things to put on your shopping lists.

We’re talking about grocery shopping again this week but with a twist. Chele discovered a local rancher right up the street from her that raises and sells only grass-fed animals and meats and boy, did she learn a lot about meat!

Ted Slanker from Slanker’s Grass Fed Meats shares with us why grass-fed meats are best for our overall health and why grain-fed meats are really “food concoctions” that are impacting our health in a negative way. Did you know that by eating grass-fed meats you could possibly reverse the symptoms of many chronic illnesses that plague us?

Join us for a very educational show! If you missed any of the websites mentioned, check out the show notes at www.MomsLoveShopping.com

Wonder Years Radio - Show #27

Do your kids choose the same books week after week when they visit the library? Are you tired of reading about the cartoon characters who grace our television sets?

This week I’m pleased to be joined by fellow podcasters Andrea and Mark who are the hosts of Just One More Book. They have developed a wonderful resource site for both parents and teachers all about children’s books and three times a week they sit in their favorite coffee house and review books that teach lessons.

They also feature interviews with authors and illustrators in an effort to entice kids to learn more about the steps necessary to create a printed book. If you are searching for a specific theme, check out their site because they also categorize each book by subject matter and age.

Do you still read to your kids now that they are in school full-time? Do your kids enjoy reading or do they associate it with only school work?

My guest this week is Sandy Fleming from All Info About Reading and she shares her insights as a teacher and a reading tutor about how students learn to read and why parents should help their kids practice those skills at home. We also discuss how the ability to read will affect your child’s performance in other subjects.

As always, it’s imperative to stay involved in your child’s academic life because reading problems that are discovered very early will be easier to resolve.

Unplugging our kids from the latest electronic gadget and encouraging them to read for pleasure sure is difficult! Sometimes we have to set the example and be creative to get our children interested in books.

Our school participates in PARP every year, which is the PTA-sponsored Parents As Reading Partners program. Each year the PARP committee gets more and more creative with their themes and prizes for kids who read 15 minutes everyday with a partner.

Even if you don’t have a PTA at your school, a group of dedicated parents can certainly form a similar program. Listen in for details and more creative ideas!

Wonder Years Radio - Show #24

Keeping young children entertained does not have to be costly. Simple projects done at home with the family will still be teaching opportunities and a chance to use up your stock of craft supplies!

This week my kindergarten daughter joined me as co-host and shared with us the meaning of President’s Day, what she’s learning about volcanoes, and how her class is celebrating the 100th day of school.

If you want to make your very own volcano, visit Wonder Years Radio for project links. The 100th day of school projects simply entailed finding 100 small objects and making something out of them. One friend drew an Easter bunny on cardboard and glued 100 jelly beans into his basket! Another friend make a monster out of that colored foam and glued 100 googly eyes on it!

Let their creativity run wild!
