It’s Earth Day and we’re celebrating by spreading the news about recycling and “green” shopping!
My guest this week is Tiffany Washko from Nature Moms and we talked about why not all plastic is recyclable, why chemicals in plastic are dangerous to our health, and 8 questions you should ask yourself before you make a purchase.
Visit Moms Love Shopping to find out how YOU can win FREE groceries! No joke!
Do you have enough food or necessities to provide for your family in case of emergency? Most moms do not because they are trying to live on a budget.
This week Chele talks about why every mother should have a stockpile of food and toiletries in their home. If you are not worried about losing a job or needing emergency surgery, then think about how high the prices will get just because of the cost of fuel. If it costs more to get products to the store, the price increase will most definitely be passed on to the consumer.
Please visit Moms Love Shopping to see the links that were mentioned in today’s show.
This week my guest Alyssa Avant from A Writer for Hire tells her tale of very poor customer service at a well-known copy center.
Customer service is lacking in many businesses and for a variety of reasons. Have you gone into a store recently - any store - and been able to find anyone who can help you find your product? Are any of the cashiers you meet during a day the least bit friendly or moving quickly?
We don’t pretend to have any answers but it sure is annoying that we, the consumers, are spending money everyday and have to deal with grumpy cashiers or retail workers who have no idea where things are located.
If you have a story or a solution to the lack of customer service, leave a comment over at Moms Love Shopping!
This week we’re talking about mall shopping with teenage girls! Chele is joined by Teresa Smolinski of http://kids-in-biz.com who shares her adventures of trying to clothe her two teenage daughters. This is no easy task when they want to look fashionable yet the clothing manufacturers do not make the clothes to fit athletic body frames.
If you have any tips or ideas of where to shop or how to keep our girls fashionable yet comfortable with their body types, let us know! Leave a comment at Moms Love Shopping.
Gift cards are a quick and easy way to send a gift but have you ever thought about what would happen if the store went out of business? Have you ever read the small print that comes with a prepaid credit card to see if there are hidden fees that could detract from the value of the card?
This week Chele goes into more detail about both of these issues and how to avoid gift card troubles. She also talks about how she was NOT a greedy or wasteful shopper on her recent CVS buying trip.
Come visit Moms Love Shopping to enter to win a $50 gift certificate in our current contest!
Chele’s guest this week is Carrie Lauth from Natural Moms Talk Radio and they discuss the ethical side of coupon shopping and buying merchandise for only pennies.
After listening to the previous shows about shopping at CVS, Carrie wrote a blog post about whether this kind of shopping was truly frugal and even ethical. Some interesting questions Carrie raised were: is it frugal to stockpile merchandise that you’ll never use and if you donate some of this free merchandise, shouldn’t the donation come from your own pocket rather than CVS’ pocket?
Join us for a very interesting discussion and hear about our newest contest!
Chele’s guest this week is Judy Davis, who wrote about her beautiful, winter-grown herbs on her blog, http://judithldavis.com/blog . Turns out Judy had received the AeroGarden as a Christmas gift and now has fresh herbs to use in her cooking this winter.
Judy shares how easy the AeroGarden was to set up. So easy, in fact, that her children were able to do it! Soon the AeroGarden became the family science experiment and they all waited impatiently for the first sprouts to appear!
Visit www.MomsLoveShopping.com for a link to try an AeroGarden for free!
It’s coffee time with Chele this week! She discusses a multitude of items, including Carrie Lauth’s latest blog post about CVS shopping, a bra that has built in shopping bags (no lie!), and Oprah’s latest show about a woman in financial crisis.
Chele offers the challenge to all her listeners to get a copy of Suze Orman’s latest book, read it AND take action so they don’t find themselves in the same predicament as Oprah’s guest. No amount of material possessions will prepare you for possible emergencies in the future. Consider this book a small investment to your furture well-being.

We’re all about saving money so we’re talking about ways to save money on our electric bills. It’s a real catch-22: we need electricity to live and yet the utility rates seem to increase every year.
This week Chele talks about using CFL lightbulbs, lowering your thermostat, buying energy efficient appliances and how to shop around for the best electric rate. Not every state has this option but it’s great info if you DO have the choice between electric companies.
We also have a new contest going on! Stop over to Moms Love Shopping for more details! And if you share some link love, you might get a shout out on our next show!
One of the best kept secrets to saving money on your family’s clothing is to shop at thrift stores. Well, it’s not really a secret but for some reason people avoid shopping at consignment shops for various reasons.
Chele is joined this week by Carrie Lauth from Natural Moms Talk Radio who explains her strategies for successfully shopping at thrift stores. In addition to saving money, you are also helping keep the landfills clear by reusing these items.
Although you will have to sort through some piles at various thrift stores, very often Carrie has found items with price tags still attached or even with dry cleaning receipts attached. If you feel squeamish about buying second hand clothing, just remember to wash the clothes before you wear them and you won’t have any more germs than if you bought it at the local mall.
Come see our new makeover at Moms Love Shopping and pick up Carrie’s Thrift Store Shopping Spree report!
