Teens sure love to make money but do they know how to manage their finances?
Chances are, they don’t. So often they want the money to buy clothes, a car, or to socialize with their friends but very few are taught how to budget or save their money.
Today Aurelia discusses how to teach our teens to be financially savvy with her guest, Vince Shorb, founder of the National Youth Financial Educator’s Council. Vince had his own financial problems as a young adult and learned the hard way how to save and manage his money wisely.
Because of his own financial woes, Vince is now dedicated to increasing youth financial literacy through a variety of workshops, custom programs, educator training, curriculum, live events and online virtual learning centers.

Do you know what your teen does with his/her cell phone? If it has photo capabilities, you better check to be sure they’re not “sexting” their friends or even total strangers.
In this episode of Parenting My Teen Aurelia shares tips for keeping your kids away from the temptation of sexting, or sending revealing – or even nude – photos of themselves to their school friends. Sometimes kids do this for fun and other times it’s done to humiliate another student. No matter the intent, having these risque photos of themselves on the internet can cause nothing but trouble.
Communication with our teens is so essential, especially in regard to sexting. Did you know that some states consider sexting a form of child pornography and the consequences could land your teen in jail and/or with the label of “sex offender”?

It’s so hard to see our children growing up, isn’t it? While that’s the ultimate goal, of course, it seems like in no time flat they go from being this cute little helpless bundle of joy to a teen who’s always daydreaming about the future and wanting to venture out on their own without parental supervision.
This week’s guest is Christina Lemmey, Aurelia’s podcast producer and owner of Multimedia VA. Her 6th grader is headed to an amusement park field trip today and she shares how difficult it is to let go of that control and to have faith that your child will know how to take care of themselves out of your watch.
Aurelia offered some wonderful advice about how to talk to your teen about your expectations and also why it was a good thing Christina’s daughter didn’t want her to chaperone the trip (yes, it IS a good thing!)

If there is a way you can adapt your products or customer service to better serve these new habits, then your business can survive these rough times.

This week Michelle Waters discusses the ramifications of the CPSIA law which mandates product testing on handmade items designed for children. The basis of the law is good – to protect children from dangerous lead poisoning – but many small business owners cannot afford the product testing and will have to close their doors.
Michelle is joined by the founder of Just Be Products, Michelle Pratt-Lienhart. Michelle says she can’t afford the testing on her apparel line and will probably have to stop producing if the law isn’t changed. She also questions why the larger manufacturers are not held responsible for the testing since they are better able to absorb those costs.
