You betcha! It's called BabyWise or CIO (cry it out) and it is very popular. There are several popular books on the topic (with varying degrees of "fierceness") at any bookstore. 

And we have had this conversation before - don't even get me started on the whole "Is s/he a GOOD baby?" "Is s/he sleeping through the night/on a good schedule yet?" 

I hate that mentality and yes it always offended me too. LOL!</description>
