Mom’s Morning Show #175

May 30, 2008 by Tishia · Leave a Comment

Kelly McCausey was joined by Cara Mirabella and Tishia Lee.

This Week’s Theme: Writing Your Way Home

Today Kelly started the conversation out talking about getting paid to blog. They talked about Izea and Pay Per Post. The conversation moved from the direction of having a site (mentioned above) pay you to post on your blog but instead having someone pay you to post on their blog.

The conversation turned to how long blog posts should be. Some say that a post should be between 150-200 words, some say 350 but there isn’t a correct answer. Kelly pointed out that a blog post should be as long as it needs to be to get the point across.

The winner of the ipod Nano was LaTara Ham-Ying. Congrats LaTara and thanks to everyone that played along.

Kelly made an announcement to mark your calendars for September 11-13th. She hasn’t given any details other than it’s brilliant. So mark your calendar in pencil as brilliant for those days & she’ll share more details later.

Mom’s Morning Show #174

May 29, 2008 by Tishia · Leave a Comment

Kelly McCausey was joined by Tishia Lee and Carrie Lauth today.

This Week’s Theme: Writing Your Way Home

The ladies talked about the going rate for PLR rewrites. Carrie mentioned that she is considering offering some VA services and rewriting PLR articles is something she would enjoy doing so she was curious what the going rate was.

Deb Gallardo called in today and Kelly had a deep question for Deb (and everyone). When you are editing your work and writing, who are you writing for? Who are you trying to impress?

Kelly mentioned that in our community people get caught up in worrying about what their peers will think instead of thinking about what their target market will think. She said that if you get too caught up in worrying about what your peers will think you’ll end up getting paralyzed with fear. You need to focus on what your target market needs to hear/read. Stop wasting your time worrying about whether your peers will like it because you probably aren’t going to knock their socks off. Focusing too much on your peers is going to get you out of touch with your peers. Ask yourself if you are trying to impress someone that doesn’t matter.

Kelly McCausey was joined by Tishia Lee and Treece Smolinkski today.

This Week’s Theme: Writing Your Way Home

Today Kelly, Treece and Tishia talked about writing on the internet. There are lots of people out there that aren’t good writers but you would never know it…all thanks to ghostwriters! If you are a good writer and enjoy doing it you can make money online. There is always a need for ghostwriters and copywriters.

The ladies talked about ghostwriters that they’ve worked with and have been happy with. Kelly said Laurie Ayers has done some great work for her in the past but she’s pretty sure she isn’t taking on new clients right now. In the chat room LaTara Ham-Ying was mentioned and her new writing service, The Natural Writer.

Mom’s Morning Show #172

Kelly McCausey was joined by Mom’s Morning Show Crew Tishia Lee, Carrie Lauth, Cara Mirabella and Treece Smolinski.

This Week’s Theme: Writing Your Way Home

Kelly shared a link to her post on Wahm 2.0 that turned into a big discussion amongst the ladies. The post was about a situation that recently happened where someone was sharing business ideas in a small group where the group met and brainstormed. Right before this person planned on launching another person from the group (who NEVER mentioned anything about being interested in any of the business ideas being talked about) went and launched the same exact thing that this other person had been so open about sharing her ideas, etc. Ouch! Talk about a low blow & it literally devastated the person that had all the original ideas and was so eagerly and openly sharing her ideas and gathering input from the group.

Mommy Community #31

May 27, 2008 by Marie · 2 Comments

My special guest for this podcast is Teresa Smolinski – a work at home mom of 2 entrepreneur teen girls. We spoke about how parents can encourage their children about starting a business. She shares their experience of running their pre-wrap business. She also has an awesome ebook entitled – Kids Business Ideas.

We talked about how we can get kids thinking about starting a simple business from home and help introduce the concept of being business for yourself. Their story is truly inspiring. If you have kids who are business minded, you may want to have them listen in to the show as well.

Household Helper Talk Show #18

Working Outside The Home

When I started to get my act together, I was working outside of the home. Believe me it was hard to maintain my home and family responsibilities while I was ‘working for the man’. But I found balance – IT CAN BE DONE!

There are 5 things that every mom, whether working outside of the home or not, need to do. I think of them as my tools for home and family management. They are:

  1. Develop daily routines – if you work outside the home, develop a before work, an after work, and a bedtime routine. (recommended reading: How To Succeed at Becoming Organized)
  2. Keep a calendar – list everything on that calendar. Appointments, games, etc. Even include any work activities that will impact your home life. Having this info all in one place will help you better plan your week. Especially helpful for the next tool.
  3. Check today what is going on tomorrow – know before what is up for the following day before going to bed. Start your day out right. Make lunch, get dinner out of the freezer, etc.
  4. Develop a weekly routine. Assign a specific task for you to accomplish each day instead of trying to do it all. For example, dust and vacuum Monday; pay bills and handle paperwork Tuesday; etc. etc.
  5. Meal Plan – one of our primary responsibilities as a wife and mother is to nourish our loved ones. Food is a very important part of our lives – heck, that’s why the Food Network exists. Planning the week’s meals ahead of time will accomplish 2 things: A) Only going to the grocery store once and always having what is needed in the fridge, freezer and pantry. B)You can plan quick and easy meals for the days that will be extra busy. (recommended resources: Meal Planning for Busy Moms ebook or Dine Without Whine – s family friendly weekly menu service)

Once these routines are in place, and you have begun to effectively use these tools, you will find extra time on your hands. These pockets of time can be used to tackle organization projects. Use this time to organize your closet; sort and purge your kid’s clothing; maybe straighten out your holiday decorations.
